In collaboration with talented Alaskan Mary Hayden of Mud Bay Leather Goods and the innovative Tidal Vision, producer of 100% sustainable wild Alaska salmon leather, we've made small batch of gorgeous tote bags sourced from and made in Alaska. These elegant pieces will stand the test of time and become more beautiful as they age. Subtly branded with the Salmon Sisters logo and completed with a large outside pocket of ocean blue and natural brown salmon leather, scales and all, this over-the-shoulder treasure is a show-stopper. Each bag is unique (color of salmon leather will slightly vary). Product dimensions 13" wide x 14" tall x 5" deep. Life time warranty.

Each tote bag is constructed individually and hand-stitched by Mary Hayden. Mary uses vegetable tanned leather from Wickett & Craig Tannery in Pennsylvania, one of the few authentic American tanneries left today. This leather is sturdy to accommodate the bag's contents, and darkens with use and age to a lovely patina. The bags are hand-sewn using waxed linen thread in a two needle saddlestitch. This kind of stitch is stronger than that sewn by a machine. Once assembled, the tote bag is treated with a beeswax-based leather conditioner.

Once purchased, you can treat your bag with any kind of leather conditioner to keep it moisturized and supple. Keep in mind that since each tote bag is hand sewn, dyed and made with natural ingredients, they are all a little bit different and have a character of their own. The colors of salmon leather will vary slightly as well, so each bag is completely unique!

Mary Hayden, our talented wallet maker, moved to Homer, Alaska from Georgia six years ago. She started working with leather after her son Wyatt was born a year ago. Making something tangible and learning something new from each project she took on was a welcomed reassurance during the strange time of new motherhood.
